Tonbo Ooi, the protagonist, lost her two parents in a car accident when she was young and was raised by her grandfather, Gonji Ooi, fisherman on the island of Kagoshima in the Tokara Islands. Tonbo learns to play golf while using iron inherited from his father on the three golf courses on the island, which were built by the islanders themselves.
The story begins with the meeting with Tonbo Kazuyoshi Igarashi, a former professional golfer who came to Kagoshima in search of work.
